Stage fright is most commonly experienced by actors, musicians, athletes, etc, who will experience stage fright as an impairment of their own particular activity. A mime, for instance, can experience stage fright even though no speaking is involved. The best man at a wedding can experience it, even though all eyes are on the bride. So can a golfer, especially on the first tee. However, many people just suffer with it, with all the limitations and negative emotions it imposes. They either don’t realize help is available; they fear they can’t be helped; or they think it will be too hard.

Stage fright is a real phenomenon, affecting both new and seasoned performers, not only on stage but in a variety of performance venues. Dancers, musicians, and actors may all fall victims to this fear that comes with performance, even in front of a camera or in a recording studio, instead of on stage. For many people, performance is tinged with anxiety, since it means you are being judged by an audience.

Stage fright can create mild to severe anxiety or what is called a fight or flight reaction. When we are in situations that create this reaction, the body chemically reacts for some people this will even result in panic attacks, and others will at the least feel knot in the pit of their stomach.

People who can power through stage fright often find that the extra adrenaline surge enhances rather than detracts from their performance. As an example an actress or singer may inject more energy and passion into a performance when adrenaline is channeled into his or work. Others are so overcome by topophobia that they literally can’t make it to the stage, or if they do and make a mistake, they can’t go forward with their performance. They can literally be frozen in place, and some feel the anxiety so brutally that they fear they may die. Stage fright is like fear doing an overblown allergic reaction. In reality all that fear is not required because the situation is not physically threatening.

Treatments For Stage Fright or Topophobia

Treatment for sever Topophobia may include taking anti-anxiety medication, and by undergoing therapy to help them master this fright.

There are some wonderful techniques which aid in achieving a state of peace to deliver your best performance. Concentrate on your breathing, which should be deep and slow. It can work wonders on stabilizing the thinking process. Even when you feel your nerves start to come upon you, make your bodily actions more sturdy and positive.
